5.1.

[By Connie Martin]:

Requesting that the administration prepare a report on the current status of Reading Instruction in the district, specifically addressing the use of Balanced Literacy vs Structured Literacy curriculum and pedagogy to be presented to the Curriculum and Instruction subcommittee.

5.2.

Request the Superintendent start the process for a full-time Title I Director for the Lowell Public Schools.

5.3.

Ask the Superintendent to meet with the appropriate LHS staff and begin the process of developing a 2024 Presidential Mock Election for all students and personnel.

A motion to have the Superintendent & the Chief Academic officer look into the feasibility of developing Chapter 74 Voc-Ed programming into the Lowell High School curriculum.

Request the superintendent to research the feasibility of building a continuous K-12 financial literacy program.

Request the superintendent to review and re-establish the MTSS system in order to review the teacher assistance team structures assuring interpreter availability.

Request the superintendent to begin to mainstream elementary reading curriculums in order to align with middle school reading programs throughout the district.

Request the superintendent to report on the status of what schools have received migrant students and what services such as ELL programs, and trauma based services they are receiving to help them acclimate.

5.9.

Request the superintendent to revisit the cell phone policy at the highschool in order to be inclusive of potential damages to phones, and  parent/student rights to sign a proper policy that was not included for them to sign off on in September 2024.

Request the superintendent to break down the enrollment numbers per school  disaggregated by grade, each class size per grade.

5.11.

Request the superintendent to create a spreadsheet to be filled by staff at each school. The spreadsheet should list all schools in the first column and list any maintenances/work that needs to be done in a separate column that corresponds to each school (one item in each box). This sheet should be updated and reported on monthly to the school committee.

Request the superintendent to provide a report of incomplete IT tickets submitted from each school. Please include what the ticket is regarding and the date it was submitted by staff. Request these reports be submitted monthly to the school committee.

Request the Superintendent provide the committee with a report on the policy/practice for identifying students with learning disabilities and emotional anxieties (trauma, PTSD, etc.) to offer special education services and 504 plans as early as possible in their school career.

Request the Superintendent work with the Mayor to provide the committee with a job description/timeline to establish a full-time Executive Assistant to the School Committee to fulfill all duties and functions relative to the committee's work.
