City of Lowell Announces New Property Tax Exemptions for Lowell Homeowners

GREAT NEWS, LOWELL HOMEOWNERS! You Might Qualify for a Property Tax Exemption Available (July 1, 2025 - April 1, 2026)

The City of Lowell, through the Assessing Department, is providing property tax exemptions to help reduce the burden on qualifying homeowners starting today, July 1, 2025, through April 1, 2026. Statutory Exemptions are available for qualifying Seniors, Surviving Spouses, Disabled Veterans & Legally Blind Persons on their FY26 Real Estate Tax bill.

- Seniors (65 or older): must meet income & asset requirements ($1,000 exemption)

- Seniors (70 or older) or a Surviving Spouse (never remarried): must meet asset requirements ($418.48 exemption)

- Blind: must be certified legally blind by the Division of the Blind ($500 exemption)

- Disabled Veterans: must have at least 10% service-connected disability

Seniors! Don’t Forget About the Massachusetts Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit Seniors 65 years or old, who rent or own property in Massachusetts, may be eligible to claim a refundable credit on their Massachusetts income tax return. If the credit due the taxpayer exceeds the amount of the total income tax payable for the year, the excess amount of the credit will be refunded to the taxpayer without interest. We recommend you contacting your tax preparer to see if you qualify. For more information on this tax credit go to Mass.gov
