Civil Service Opportunities

Civil Service is a merit system under which State and municipal employees may be hired and promoted. The Civil Service Unit within the Human Resources Division is responsible for overseeing the administration of this system for the Commonwealth.

Application Deadline: February 2, 2026

Notices to Appear for Examination: February 20, 2026

Examination Beginning Date: March 11, 2026 through March 14, 2026*

*The exam period may be extended depending upon number of candidates.

Examination location: Various sites across the Commonwealth

Eligibility: Entry-level, open to public

Examination Fee for Municipal Police, Transit Police (MBTA) & State Trooper: $75
