ARPA Lowell Fire Department Apparatus Replacement Plan

The Lowell Fire Department maintains a fleet of 43 vehicles.  This includes a large array of equipment used for everything from fire response to training and staff functions.  With an average age of 15-16 years, the current fleet situation is problematic.  The ARPA funding will allow the City to make a nearly complete replacement of the oldest pieces of apparatus.

Fire Department Vehicle Purchase Plan

This project encompasses the replacement of 10 Fire Department vehicles (within several firehouses), which will significantly upgrade the existing fleet, provide a better distribution of service vehicle types across the city, and improve the effective response time to emergencies across the city.

The above chart shows the breakdown of spending on the Fire Department Apparatus Replacement Plan.

Fire Hydrant Replacement Program

This program is to replace older fire hydrants across the City with new, more efficient units, that are also easier to maintain. The program will install new, freshwater intake pumps for the Lowell Water Utility, replacing older obsolete units, while also providing better capacity for the demand within the City of Lowell.
